Here are five movies that Kenyan film buffs can watch on Emirates flights in July

This is the reboot of the Guillermo Del Toro film series last decade. Based on the Dark Horse graphic novels, Hellboy, played by David Habour (Stranger Things), is caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human and battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge. It also stars Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil series) and Ian McShane (Deadwood, John Wick).

This is Jordan Peele’s second psychological thriller masterpiece since 2017’s Oscar nominated Get Out. Starring Kenya’s very own Lupita Nyong’o, the movie is set in the Northern California coastline. Adelaide (Lupita), her husband Gabe and their two children are on a summer getaway until it takes a nightmarish turn when they encounter terrifying doppelgängers of themselves.

  • Dumbo

This Disney live action film from director Tim Burton (Alice in Wonderland), the new live-action ‘Dumbo’ expands on the beloved classic story where differences are celebrated, family is cherished and dreams take flight.

  • Alita Battle Angel

One of the dystopian sci-fi films of 2019, it is set in 2563, 300 years after Earth has been devastated by a catastrophic interplanetary war known as “The Fall” or “The Great War”. Starring a female cyborg Alita played by Rosa Salazar awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by a compassionate cyberphysician.

  • The Adventures of Supermama

This South African comedy classic stars Nomsa Buthelezi as Doris an ordinary woman from Johannesburg whose life changes forever when she meets a Kung-Fu master called Mr. Hung, and convinces him to train her in the ancient art of Kung-Fu. With courage and determination, she turns herself into an unconventional superhero.
