Kenyan movie Lusala premieres on Emirates Inflight Entertainment System

Kenyan movie Lusala joins other films from the region and makes its debut this March at 40,000 feet on the Emirates’ award-winning inflight entertainment system, ice.

Directed by Mugambi Nthiga, Lusala tells the story of a young man rescued from his abusive upcountry home, who then moves in with an affluent Nairobi family. Years later, when he comes of age, he looks to start out life on his own. Eager at first, he makes the most of his new life, until the demons from his past return, and he is forced to face.

Lusala stars Brian Ogola, Stycie Waweru, Alyce Wangari, Mkamzee Mwatela and Alan Oyugi. The movie had its premiere during the 2019 Nairobi Film Festival to great critical reviews.

Supa Modo which was co-written by Mugambi premiered on ice in 2019.

Besides Lusala, Emirates’ customers can access over 4,500 channels of movies, TV programmes, music and podcasts on the industry’s biggest personal screens on ice – the airline’s award winning inflight entertainment system including African produced content. In 2019, ice clinched its 15th consecutive Skytrax win for Best Inflight Entertainment and its 3rd consecutive APEX Passenger Choice award for Best Entertainment.

Emirates has continually invested in upgrading its inflight entertainment systems and was the first airline in the world to offer in-seat TV screens in all classes in 1992. Today, Emirates offers the industry’s largest in-seat screens in all classes at up to 13.3 inches wide in Economy Class, 23 inches wide in Business Class and 32 inches in First Class. The viewing experience in First Class is further enhanced with Bowers & Wilkins active noise cancelling E1 headphones created exclusively for Emirates.

In March, Emirates will also be celebrating International Women’s Day in style by showing over 120 movies directed and produced by women from around the world including Ravneet Sippy Chadha’s Subira.

Emirates operates two flights to Dubai from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport departing at 1635hrs and 2245hrs.
